When the grandmother heard glass breaking and screams coming from
the bedroom, she went inside and was also attacked, McCormack said.
Harrington punched the 78-year-old repeatedly and ultimately bound
both women with duct tape, McCormack said.
According to authorities, Harrington disabled the home's landline
phone and took his ex-girlfriend's cellphone before fleeing in a
2003 Nissan Murano. The women were still tied up but managed to
free themselves about an hour after Harrington left, McCormack
said.
Police responded to the home about 5:30 a.m. and soon issued a
statewide alert, describing Harrington and his vehicle. The two
women and the 2-year-old girl were taken by ambulance to the
Hospital of Central Connecticut at New Britain General, where the
grandmother remained hospitalized as of Monday morning, McCormack
said. Their identities were not released because the attack
involved a sexual assault.
Sunday afternoon, Naugatuck police pulled over the Nissan and took
Harrington into custody without incident, McCormack said. Berlin
police then picked up Harrington, who has no certain address and
had recently been moving from one friend's home to the next, and
booked him on 16 counts.
He was charged with first-degree strangulation, first-degree
assault, first-degree assault of an elderly person, two counts of
second-degree threatening, third-degree sexual assault, two counts
of first-degree unlawful restraint, first-degree burglary,
first-degree robbery, fifth-degree larceny, interfering with an
emergency call, risk of injury to a minor, tampering with physical
evidence and two counts of breach of peace by assault.
Harrington was being held Monday at the Berlin Police Department
with bail set at $1 million and is expected to appear this morning
in Superior Court in New Britain. -By Vanessa De La Torre, Hartford

He is charged with theft of property valued at more than $1, 000
and two counts of burglary. He was still at the Williamson County
jail this morning, with bail set at $75, 000. Investigators say
Bernard is connected to two burglaries that occurred Oct. 5 and
Oct. 9 at the Music and Arts Center in Cool Springs and burglaries
at Computer Renaissance and Michael Renee Portrait Studio in
Brentwood. Bernard was serving probation for breaking into an Oak
Hill home in 2002. Police said he will be charged with violating
that probation.
In the Oak Hill case, Bernard was shot in the face by the
homeowner. Police said Bernard, who was 17 at the time of the
break-in, was accused of bringing guns and duct tape to the home.
In 2003, a Davidson County judge sentenced Bernard to 90 days in
jail and more than seven years of probation. Bernard was also
ordered to pay the homeowners $5, 000. At a sentencing hearing on
Oct. 3, 2003, Bernard said he'd developed a drug habit costing him
$800 to $1, 000 a week.

Lock bumping: A new burglary threat bad car credit guide loan
November 13, 2007 (North Palm Beach, FL)
Using cheap tools and tips available online, thieves could
probably get into your house in less than a minute. Most
American homes are vulnerable to this spreading break-in
technique. Imagine a method of defeating the vast majority of
American locks that can be learned in under an hour, uses tools
that can be acquired on the Internet for less than $50 and, if
done right, can be performed in less than a minute, leaving
little or no trace of a break-in. bad credit loan
If you watch local news or spend time on the Internet, you
may have heard alarming stories about a new way of picking a
lock called lock bumping or key bumping. Security experts in
Europe and, more recently, the United States have declared lock
bumping a danger to anyone who secures their valuables with
pin-tumbler locks, which happens to include the vast majority
of American houses. credit definition derivative
What is lock bumping Lock bumping is a way of opening a lock
using a specially filed key that is the same size and shape as
the key normally used in the lock. This special
bump key is inserted into the lock and then struck
with a tool made of rubber or plastic. The impact of the bump
key on the tumblers inside the lock temporarily pushes them up,
allowing the lock s cylinder to turn. This method, if done
correctly, can open a lock quickly and with relatively little
noise. bad credit mortgage
The main concern is that it is so darn easy and that
you don t need any special tools or training. You only need
a key, which in most cases is an easy thing to get, says
Barry Wels, a founding member of The Open Organization of
Lockpickers (TOOOL), a Dutch locksmiths club that has helped
promote awareness of the technique among government officials
and consumers. If you take a motivated 15- or 16-year-old
and give him an hour or two and $100 to invest in tools, he can
open most locks. the insider guide to credit
