Now is the time to sign the Declaration of Independence from Oil!  Add your
name to demand that Ford Motor Company bring its fleet-wide fuel efficiency
to 50 MPG by 2010 and build a zero-emission fleet by 2020!   The final list of all
signatories will be sent to the executives at Ford Motor Company, the car
maker with the WORST fuel economy average of all the major auto makers,
according to the EPA.

The Declaration of Independence from Oil
July 4, 2004.

The unanimous Declaration of the signatories below,
When in the Course of human events our world is imperiled by our dependence
on oil, it is our responsibility to declare to the worst automaker, the
despotic corporation Ford Motor Company:

We hold these truths to be self-evident: 1) Oil dependence is depriving us
of certain unalienable Rights. 2) Among these are Life, Liberty and a Stable
Climate. 3) To secure oil, Governments are resorting to unjust violence
among Men. 4) Exhaust from our vehicles is endangering the earth on which
our liberty depends. 5) The world economy and American communities are
insufferably subject to convulsions of the world oil market.

Ford Motor Company has established an absolute Tyranny of Oil over the
American People. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

Ford has for five long years carried the lowest fuel economy of all
American automakers.

When it comes to the emission of greenhouse gases, Fords cars are the
dirtiest in the industry. If Ford were a country, it would be the 10th
largest global warming polluter worldwide.

Ford has betrayed the trust of the public and reneged on its promises to
improve fuel economy. Ford has refused to install existing fuel efficiency
technology in its vehicles, an unwarrantable waste.

Ford has fought lawmakers efforts to increase fuel economy standards.

Ford has become complacent about fuel economy. Today the typical Ford
vehicle on the road gets worse gas mileage than the Model-T did 80 years
ago.

We, therefore, by Authority of the good People of this Country, solemnly
publish and declare, That we are, and of Right ought to be Free and
Independent of Oil; That we are Absolved from all Allegiance to Ford Motor
Company, and that all economic connection between our people and Oil ought
to be totally dissolved.
