Several have been caught in the 200-pound range, so gear up for a big one. Tarpon shadow schools of bait that start forming in an area 6 to 12 miles offshore in 40 to 60 feet of water. Try positioning your boat in front of the moving fish and cast a Coon Pop jig (a large lead jig on a circle hook with a soft, curly tail) or live mullet just ahead of the rolling tarpon.
